With King’s College of the Philippines’ vision of transforming the youth into exemplars in their chosen careers, and cultivating a generation of globally competitive professionals who love God, lead the nation, and light the world, the KCP-Junior High School was established.
In the school year 2012-2013, the Department of Education issued a permit for King’s College of the Philippines to offer a high school program. During its first year of operation, the high school department began admitting Grade 7 students under the new K-12 curriculum, as well as second-year students under the old Basic Education Curriculum (BEC). The department had a total of 57 enrollees: 39 Grade 7 students and 18 second-year students, with only six faculty members. At the time, the department was located in the basement of the main building (Building A), occupying just three classrooms and one faculty office.
The following school year saw enrollment numbers more than double. The department added two new Grade 7 sections, along with a Grade 8 and third-year level section. Due to the increasing number of enrollees, the department moved to a new location in Building D.
By the end of the school year 2014-2015, the department held its first graduation for the last batch of students under the old curriculum, with 28 graduates. All 18 original second-year students, along with 10 transfer students, participated in the first Moving-Up ceremony. In March 2015, the Department of Education granted Government Recognition (QAD-R-005, s. 2015) to the Junior High School, meaning the department no longer needed to apply for a permit each school year.
The first completers of the new K-12 curriculum in Junior High School graduated in 2016. This year marked the formal establishment of the Basic Education Department with the nationwide implementation of the K-12 programs, including Kinder to Grade 6, Junior High School (Grades 7-10), and the start of the first Senior High School batch (Grade 11).
True to its commitment to providing quality education, the Junior High School was granted Certification Status by the PEAC on April 16, 2018, and was awarded Candidate Status by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ACSCU) Accrediting Council, Inc. on June 16, 2022.
Since its establishment, the department has been led by the following principals:
- Clarita C. Alingcayon (2012-2015)
- Noemi G. Nahial (2015-2016)
- Dina Teresita P. Balaan (2016-2021)
- Gina M. Solano (2021 – present)
From its humble beginnings in 2012, KCP-JHS has been a cornerstone of education in the community. Over the years, it has demonstrated continued growth and improvement. As of the school year 2023-2024, the department boasts 13 sections and 21 faculty members. Through its dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity, KCP-JHS has become a beloved Christian institution in the community, shaping the lives of generations of students by teaching them to love God, lead the nation, and light the world.
