In a grand gathering that resonated with enthusiasm and fervor, King’s College of the Philippines (KCP) recently hosted its annual Student General Orientation and Assembly. The event, which took place on the lush campus grounds, served as a platform to honor outstanding achievements, reinforce support services, and enlighten students on academic and environmental responsibilities.
Celebrating Athletic Excellence
The highlight of the event was the recognition of KCP’s athletes who participated in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) 2023 competition held in Zamboanga City from July 13 to 19. With immense pride, the athletes who represented the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in weightlifting (men and women senior division) and beach volleyball (girls) were awarded certificates of recognition. These exceptional students collectively secured an impressive haul of 12 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals. The Sports Coordinator, Mr. Danilo E. Edwardo, led the supervision of the athletes’ preparations and participation, contributing to their remarkable success on the national stage.
Empowering Knowledge and Responsibility
Mr. Jefort Sab-it, the Director of the Office of Student Affairs, stood before an eager audience during King’s College of the Philippines’ (KCP) annual Student General Orientation and Assembly. In his role as both the event’s emcee and OSA Director, Sab-it delivered a powerful message, emphasizing the significance of understanding the school’s terms and policies. “Ignorance of the law excuses no one,” he quoted, underscoring the importance of being well-informed in the academic journey.
The event’s proceedings were further enriched by the warm welcome extended by the School President, Atty. Rolando T. Vergara. Atty. Vergara focused on the guiding principles of KCP, highlighting the relevance of divine law in shaping a supportive and nurturing educational environment.
Dr. Caridad P. Pagaduan, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, took the stage to provide updates on academic policies. She sensitively addressed practical matters such as late enrollment and INC completion fees, ensuring that students were well-prepared for the responsibilities that come with their educational journey.
Subsequently, the different school services took the spotlight, with representatives stepping forward to introduce themselves and the policies, guidelines, and services offered by their respective offices/department:

Dr. Bugtong’s address encompassed a comprehensive overview, highlighting the school’s dedication in maintaining a safe and conducive premises, extending valuable outreach programs, championing environmental initiatives, and ensuring the well-being of students through medical and dental services.
The event gained an international perspective as Dr. Ae Jin Kwon, the BOT Vice Chairperson and VP for Finance, delved into the global climate crisis. Dr. Kwon advocated the importance of the “3 Rs” – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – while introducing an additional “R,” urging attendees to “rethink” their consumption habits. This focus aligns with the school’s commitment to minimizing single-use plastics and fostering an environmentally conscious community.
Dr. Angeline T. Bugtong returned to the stage to deliver the closing remarks, addressing the faculty, staff, and students in attendance. Her heartfelt message resonated deeply: “At King’s College of the Philippines, you are loved. You are safe. You are educated. You are empowered.” Dr. Bugtong’s words encapsulated the institution’s core values, assuring students that they’re not just entering an academic environment, but a supportive and caring family that nurtures growth and empowerment.
Guided by the diligent efforts of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the event reached its pinnacle as school administrators and students imprinted their thumbprints, signifying a united commitment to translate shared ideals into tangible actions for the forthcoming academic year. As the assembly drew to a close, the fruitful collaboration between students and administrators became palpable, fostering a profound sense of camaraderie and unwavering determination among all participants.
