Faith, Health & Compassion: Dr. Tae Sung Kwon’s Lecture

As part of KCP’s 21st Foundation Month celebration, Dr. Tae Sung Kwon delivered a professorial lecture titled “What If Only Ten Can Be Found There?” and shared deep insights into faith, health, and compassion. The lecture explored infectious diseases, the challenges faced by individuals experiencing hardships, and the role of faith in fostering compassion and understanding. Held via Zoom, the lecture was a key highlight of the anniversary event, leaving a meaningful impact on the KCP community.

Health and Disease: Lessons from the Past and Present

The lecture began with Dr Kwon discussing various infectious diseases and their profound impact on public health, emphasizing the importance of understanding disease transmission to prevent future outbreaks. He elaborated on how various factors, such as human behavior, environmental conditions, and access to healthcare, influence the spread of infections. Dr. Kwon stressed that improving our knowledge about how diseases spread is crucial in developing effective prevention strategies, especially in the face of emerging infectious diseases.

Faith and Understanding: A Conversation on Compassion

Dr. Kwon then shifted to societal perspectives, sharing a personal story about a friend from the LGBTQ+ community facing challenges in an abusive relationship. He also highlighted the additional difficulties faced by people with HIV in the community, particularly the stigma and discrimination they often endure. Emphasizing the importance of compassion and understanding, Dr. Kwon urged people to offer support to those who are overlooked or misunderstood, ensuring they do so without judgment.”

He quoted a Bible verse to emphasize his message:

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God.” — 1 Peter 1:23

The lecture left a lasting impact on the KCP community, encouraging attendees to reflect on the intersection of faith, health, and compassion. His message reinforced the importance of knowledge, compassion, and understanding in addressing both medical and moral challenges in today’s world.
