KCP Empowers Educators at 2024 In-Service Training

King’s College of The Philippines (KCP) Basic Education Department (BED) In-Service Training for Teachers was held on July 10 to 12, 2024, at Ebenezer Convention Center with the theme, “Empowering Educators for a Transformative Educational Experience”.

The training aimed to provide administrators and faculty of the BED with the latest tools, strategies, and insights necessary for enhancing educational practices. It was designed to promote professional growth, encourage teamwork, and enhance the overall educational experience for both teachers and students.

The training began with breakout sessions in which faculty members were grouped according to their fields of specialization. The distinguished speakers who shared their best practices and strategies in teaching were Sir Kevin Jake Angyab for English and Filipino under Language, Sir Martes Dionisio Jr. for Math/ABM, Sir Russel Fitz Wadasen for Science, Sir Ros Jansel Gualdo for Social Science, ESP, and MAPEH, and Ma’am Feby Jellian Alacdis for TLE & TVL. There was also a quick presentation by Sir Gian Lloyd Jacoba on his Moodle Innovation, focusing on adapting Moodle to learners’ various styles, such as visual, verbal, auditory and others.

The second day commenced with an inspirational message from the school’s OIC President, Ma’am Aejin Kwon. She spoke about Hebrews 13:20, and introduced the new KCP tagline, “We are KCP: Equipped to transform.” She also emphasized that we should be sincere in everything we do.  Following this, Sir Steve Solano emphasized the use of AI in education through a workshop, introducing different AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Slidesgo, and others. He also stressed the importance of following the 80-20 rule, 80% comes from AI tools and 20% from teachers’ input, including the use of Declaration of Generative AI Use. The afternoon session focused on Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL), discussed by Ma’am Raiza Canillas.

Sir Russel Fitz Wadasen shared his expertise on Science Investigatory Projects (SIPs) on the last day of the training. He emphasized the importance of conducting SIPs in high school and provided essential tips for facilitating these projects. He highlighted that SIP is not solely the responsibility of science teachers but a collaborative effort among all subjects to achieve the best results. Lastly, Sir Steve Solano once again shared his knowledge about teaching students how to identify research gaps, introducing the literature review matrix, and accomplishing it using AI tools. Additionally, he highlighted the difference between informed consent and assent form, and their necessity.

The three-day In-Service Training (INSET) for the BED successfully achieved its objectives of fostering professional growth, encouraging collaborative efforts, and equipping educators with the latest tools and strategies. By embracing these new insights and technologies, our educators are now better prepared to provide a transformative and inspiring educational experience for their students. As we move forward, the commitment to continuous improvement and innovation for academic excellence of KCP remains, because we are KCP, KCP We are— Equipped to Transform!// W.K. P. and A. T. A.
