In an impressive display of innovation, King’s College of the Philippines – College of Information Technology (KCP-CIT) distinguished itself amidst fierce competition to clinch a significant position at the 8th Philippine Start-up Challenge, hosted by the Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT)- CAR. This event is an initiative to inspire the Filipino youth to develop groundbreaking ICT solutions, transforming them into viable business prospects addressing societal concerns.
KCP-CIT’s award-winning entry, “Annad”, is a riveting mobile game that sheds light on the natural calamities endemic to the Cordillera Region, such as typhoons, landslides, and earthquakes. Players are immersed in interactive narratives where they make pivotal decisions to safeguard their in-game communities. Beyond mere entertainment, “Annad” serves as an informative tool, promoting disaster readiness, risk reduction, and fortifying community resilience.
The success of this endeavor can be attributed to the brilliant team led by Jhayner Felix, backed by dedicated teammates Jean Cosme and Brail Gabin from KCP-CIT. The trio’s vision was meticulously shaped under the mentorship of Ralphy Luzada, Libby Teofilo, and CIT Dean Ginard Guaki.
Remarkably, this accolade becomes even more noteworthy considering KCP’s participation featured just a single entry amongst 54 contenders. While KCP’s commendable performance was highlighted by their singular entry, it’s worth noting that the coveted champion title was clinched by the formidable University of the Cordilleras (UC) Team Enigma with their “Para Po” app. They will now advance to represent the region at the PSC8 Semifinals, competing with other regional champions.
This debut success at the Philippine Start-up Challenge – CAR not only underscores KCP-CIT’s innovative acumen but also shines as a beacon of optimism for the Cordillera region’s relentless struggle against natural disasters. “Annad” seamlessly blends entertainment with critical education on disaster management, making its recognition at the 8th Philippine Start-up Challenge truly well-earned.
