Baguio City, Philippines – In a remarkable display of cultural talent and dedication, the KCP Gabay Cultural Ensemble emerged as the second-place winner in the prestigious competition held as part of the 56th ASEAN Founding Anniversary celebrations. The event, themed “ASEAN Matters: Epicenter of Growth,” showcased the diverse cultural heritage of the Cordillera Region.

Hosted at the Newtown Plaza Hotel in Baguio City, the competition brought together numerous talented groups from across the region. The KCP Gabay Cultural Ensemble stood out with their exceptional performance of “Longayban,” a traditional song hailing from the Mt. Province.

The ensemble’s performance was not just a display of musical prowess but also a testament to their deep connection with their cultural roots. The rendition of “Longayban” captivated the audience and judges alike, earning them the prestigious second-place position in a highly competitive field.

Behind this success is Ms. Shirley I. Apolonio, a faculty member of KCP CTE, who has been the guiding force and adviser for the Cultural Ensemble. Her dedication and commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and talent among the youth were evident in the group’s performance.

The Commission on Higher Education-CAR, which organized this region-wide celebration, aimed to highlight the importance of ASEAN integration and cooperation. By including a competition on Cordillera traditional song, they provided a platform for showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the ASEAN nations.

The KCP Gabay Cultural Ensemble’s achievement is not just a victory for the group but also a shining example of how traditional arts can play a vital role in modern society. Their success at the competition is a source of pride for the Cordillera Administrative Region and an inspiration to aspiring cultural artists across the ASEAN region.// Sab-it, J.
